How to make fresh pumpkin purée

The picture above is what the puree should look like in consistency after it has been drained of the excess water.

When looking for pumpkins for your puree, make sure you buy the small sugar pumpkins. It will not taste the same if you buy the larger ones for carving. I found the best deal on them at Trader Joes in my area, they were a $1.99 each as opposed to $3.99 at the local grocery store. Be sure to shop around if you plan on roasting a few of them so you can save a few bucks.

The videos are pretty self-explanatory of the steps I do every year when I make fresh pumpkin puree for the season. A lot of the things I show you in the posted videos are things I have figured out from trial and error. I have been making fresh pumpkin puree for quite a few years now and it turns out every time when I follow the steps posted. IF you go to the recipe tab and check out the pumpkin pie recipe, I have pictures in that post of what the pie looks like with the homemade puree. You'll be able to see that it's less Orangey in color than most regular pumpkin pies, it almost looks close to a sweet Potatoe pie in color. The flavor and texture differences between store bought and homemade with fresh puree are night & day!
